BUSU's membership, the student body, is its highest governing body. A vote that achieves quorum at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) is the absolute authority of BUSU's government structure.


The second highest governing body is the Board of Directors (BoD). The BoD consists of two (2) elected officials of the corporation, two (2) elected Students-at-Large, three (3) members of the Brock University Students' Administrative Council, and one (1) ex-officio non-voting member (Consititution, Article V).


The activities of the BoD are legislated in By-Law 100. Brock University Students' Administrative Council (BUSAC) is comprised of elected faculty representatives, with a proportionate number of seats on Council to the number of students enrolled in the faculty. The activities of BUSAC are legislated in By-Law 200 and the Constitution.


The Constitution (articles VII and XV) outlines the duties and powers of BUSAC as follows:


  • Responsible for conducting the work of the Corporation as may be delegated to it by the Board in pursuit of the objects of the Corporation (objects are outlined in the Constitution)
  • Preparation of revenue, operating and capital expenditure budgets of the Corporation for approval by the Board
  • Preparation (or direction of preparation by the staff) of financial, technical project progress and other reports of the operations of the Corporation for review by Councillors and transmission for review and approval by the Board
  • Authorization of such expenditures as the Board may delegate to Council
  • No BUSAC councilor can vote on motions relating to a club or organization of which they are a member, excluding their faculty association
  • BUSAC has the power to enact, amend, or rescind By-Laws that meet the criteria set out in Article XV

In essence, BUSAC Councillors are elected to represent the concerns and voice of their faculty constituents to the Executive Committee of BUSU. BUSAC provides a legislated opportunity for students to be involved (via their faculty rep) in the decision-making process of their Students' Union.
