We are a group dedicated to theatre/drama in education as a teaching tool for the youth in the Niagara Region. Students from Brock present plays of social and critical issues that reflect the community as we use the power of theatre to engage youth in different perspectives of ideas and values. We stress the importance of “character building’, values allowing our productions and talk back discussion to generate connections in the audience and the broader community. Our goal through our productions and talk back sessions are to create connections and relationships between our community and unavoidable issues that everyone encounters. Our past shows include: The Laramie Project, and Twilight Los Angeles 1992. This year we are producing Bhopal by Rahul Varma.

Child and Youth Studies Society (CHYS Society)
Community Health Science Student Council Each year the CHSC Student council’s main purpose is to contribute to the Toepell Scholarship, which is a scholarship that was created in 2004 in memory of staff member Dr. Andrea Reisch Toepell who died of cancer. She was a valued member of the Community Health Science Department and the Brock community and is remembered for her grand enthusiasm for life. The scholarship I awarded to a student entering the department in the B.A. stream who demonstrates academic achievement and outstanding community involvement. Therefore, the CHSC council feels strongly that contributing to this scholarship helps those students who will be Brock students in the future, which is important in continuing the education of future generations. We also like to fundraise for a few other organizations, which we chose at the beginning on each year. For example, at Christmas we like to choose an organization such as community care and either contribute to an initiative they already have in place or create our own initiative that will both raise money and get the CHSC students involved in something fun for the holidays. As well last year we got involved in the Spread the Net campaign and even won a prize for our contribution! We hope to contribute to this again this year. Some of the other initiatives we have undertaker in the past that are more for the students are to have a professor meet and greet, to provide/sell department clothing, and to a part of the annual health fair to raise awareness of health-related issues and the department.
